Chicago Light

The Chicago River was green, and the wind was chilly. I remember looking up and seeing Grant Wood’s ‘American Gothic’ slowly moving through this corridor of light between the buildings. Even now, it still seems huge. Saint Patrick’s day commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and the painting is this mix of actual faux-gothic architecture and symbolism from the American midwest. The painting currently lives in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Chicago, St. Patricks Day 2009.
